Hello, my name is Katy, a travel agent with Minnie’s Travel Boutique (MTB). All of us at MTB are excited to announce that we have a blog section on our webpage and considering all the fun experiences Walt Disney World® offers, I thought I would give you a review on Space 220 — the newest Disney dining experience at Epcot that’s out-of-this-world. I have been twice now to Space 220, once for lunch, and once for dinner, and I can honestly say, for me, one menu is way better than the other.

When Walt Disney World® announced and released the opening day of Space 220 reservations this past fall, I jumped on it right away at 6 a.m. that morning. I found a date in October that was available and built my fall Disney trip around that single reservation (ha). I knew it was going to go fast because everyone was talking about it, and since COVID-19 hit, it seems like everyone is looking forward to the new things coming out left and right. When I searched for Oct. 27, only one time popped up — I didn’t hesitate. I immediately clicked on it and thought it was too good to be true. I received the confirmation email, and I clicked the reservation for four guests. Luckily during the time, I was going to be there, I had some awesome friends already booked for that same week and I brought my five-year-old with me to experience the new Space 220.

Let me first start off with the experience of Space 220. AMAZING!

Space 220 is located beside Mission: SPACE at Epcot, and when your table is ready after check-in, you board a special space elevator that takes you straight up off the planet to a space station for dining. A fun note: watch the floor window as you blast off from Earth and the ceiling window to view the space station getting closer and closer. It’s incredible! As you exit the elevator, you walk down a short corridor into the space station itself. Then you enter the dining room which was a lot smaller than I thought it was going to be, but that’s okay as there was plenty of room with lots to look at. For this first dining experience, we were seated on the left from the entrance on the second level. Earth is centered in the room with two screens on each side showing off the galaxy, and every once and awhile you can see astronauts and other ships float by. You could not see anything from outside at Epcot, so it truly felt like you were in a different location. Even the place setting was amazing! At first, I thought the silverware was fake until I picked it up — they’re dainty and very sturdy, and oh so pretty. As soon as we sat down, we were served space water. And there’s something about Epcot’s space water that tastes much better than typical Disney water (ha).

Now about the food. It’s important to know that the lunch and dinner menus are different with both including steak, chicken, and seafood to choose from. The lunch menu comes with an appetizer and a main course for an adult, as well as a main course and a dessert for a child. I started with the Centauri Caesar Salad. One of my go-to’s for every Walt Disney World® trip is a Caesar salad, it’s so refreshing to me. There must always be an excellent salad to dressing ratio; however, when I received this salad, it was not diced like a normal salad. It was sliced into wedges and had very little dressing on it. I had to ask for more dressing and even when I added more, it still wasn’t the same. Honestly, I was disappointed, and it wasn’t the same as a salad I can get somewhere else on property. Next, I had the Flat Iron Steak for my main course. As a side note: I love steak and this one wasn’t anywhere close to how I like it. I would suggest skipping the coffee rub that comes on this steak, as well. I’m not a coffee person in general and this rub was not all that appealing. I felt like I wasted a lot of steak by trying to cut the rub off. Once I had the rub off, it wasn’t terrible, just not what I wanted. In my opinion, I wouldn’t go back for lunch again. To me, this was a one-and-done experience. Even my five-year-old said the same thing. Now, he had the kid’s mac and cheese and he said it tasted weird and barely ate any of it, but he devoured his cupcake for dessert.

Right before we got our check, we decided at last second to try a dessert to get the coffee rub taste out of our mouth and I’m so glad we did. We ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake, and we inhaled it so fast (ha). If I could, I would have that over-and-over-again.

Skip to after my vacation. It’s November, I’m at home, and so ready for another Walt Disney World® trip. Who wouldn’t be? So, I started to pick dining reservations for my next trip in December, except this time my whole family would join me: my husband, both children, as well as my parents. I relayed my first experience with Space 220 about how I think it’s a one-and-done restaurant; however, I could hear it in my family’s voices, they also wanted to try the dining experience for themselves. After numerous attempts to get Space 220 once more, unfortunately, I was unsuccessful. I kept trying at every opportunity and finally two days before we left for Florida in December, I was able to secure a reservation. Okay, this time I was excited because it was dinner instead of lunch. As a travel agent, it’s always good to try a different menu.

Fast forward to December and I’m back at Epcot, ready for check-in at Space 220 with my family. And like last time, the “launch” into space was amazing! This second dining experience was special for me as I saw the excitement in the faces of my family. If anything, that was worth it all. Sitting at our table right in the middle on the lower level was especially good to have a perfect view of Earth. The Disney Imagineers even set up the display windows as if it was sunset, the Earth turned dark as if the sun had shifted to the other side to represent how it was turning to night outside. That was amazing!

Now, for the dinner menu each adult got an appetizer, a main course, and their own dessert. I tried the Caesar salad again and this time, it put a big smile on my face. The ratio of dressing to salad was perfect and it tasted like my go to Disney salad that I often crave. For my main course I had the 8 oz. filet mignon and cooked exactly how I liked it, plus the seasoning was excellent. And for dessert, I knew exactly what I wanted — the sticky toffee pudding, once again! My dad had the bone-in rib eye, and my husband had the duck, both said they would order that again. My five-year-old also ordered chicken tenders this time and he said they were much better than the mac and cheese (ha).

Overall, would I do it again? Yes, absolutely, but the dinner menu and not lunch. It is important to relay that the dining experience, while out-of-this-world, is not cheap. For a family of six — four adults and two kids — our bill was $450. But, like my husband said, “how often do we go out and really spoil ourselves like this?”

See you in space!
