Hello there. I am Bo Repko, a travel agent with Minnie’s Travel Boutique. I also serve the agency as the Group Specialist. I grew up in New Jersey and my family frequently visited the Jersey Shore for vacations and day trips to the beach. I can remember that I would never want to leave and would always plead with my parents for one more dip in the water before we left. I loved the beach and still love the beach to this day. It has a special place in my heart and every time I visit, I feel at peace.

This past winter was a unique one for me because I spent the holidays with my girlfriend and her family in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. I had never been to Hilton Head; however, anywhere that has a beach already makes me giddy. Thus, you can only imagine how excited I was when I remembered I was going to a place that had my two favorite things … the beach and Disney!

It was a sunny day with a slight breeze, and I had asked my girlfriend if she wanted to go for a bike ride. She agreed and we hopped on our bikes to explore Hilton Head for all that it had to offer. This being the first time I had ever been on Hilton Head Island, I was amazed at how vastly different the island was compared to the islands up in New Jersey. The island was full of lush greenery, palm trees, cute boutiques and storefronts that were all accompanied with festive Christmas decorations strewed about.

While we were riding down one of the bike paths, I looked across the street and saw what appeared to be the entrance to Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort. We crossed the street and rode across a beautiful bridge with a walking path that led to the check-in building. The entrance to the check-in had garland hung on the outside of the building accompanied with the cutest Mickey Mouse made from shrubs with a red bow welcoming guests holding a sign that read Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.

If you’re unfamiliar with this Disney resort, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is located on the beautiful and relaxing coast of South Carolina — it’s only five hours from Walt Disney World® in Orlando, Fla. Even at first glance, you immediately feel the relaxing home-away-from-home vibe. The décor and design is charming and simple and yet, great for any solo traveler and/or family visit. In some ways it resembles a hunting lodge from the earlier decades and comes complete with 12 miles of the coastline. Did I mention it was beautiful?

After my girlfriend and I explored the check-in and front area, we made our way deeper into the resort on our bikes. We rode down a boardwalk that ran in between the bay and guest rooms. The boardwalk lead into a central courtyard area with a butterfly garden and games such as shuffleboard, life-size chess, and checkers. In addition, there were hammocks, bike racks, luggage carts and a fun playground area for young children. The guest pool — the Big Dipper Pool — is well, big, with heated pool water and a waterslide, as well as a spa area. Further into the resort there was a snack bar, called Tide Me Over; a fun, play on words. There is another dining area — considered a quick service by the sea — called Signals. Next to the snack bar there was a gift shop and a “community room” for families to relax and play board games. The community room fed into the gift shop as well as a fitness center for guests to utilize during their stay. At the entrance of the community room there was a display board listing various activities for guests to enjoy including Disney Princess Trivia and Movie Under the Oaks.

Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort in Hilton Head, S.C., offers comfort and relaxation all around the property.

My personal favorite aspect of the resort was a dock that extended out into the bay and gave you an amazing view at dawn and dusk. It also had a signpost pointing to various Walt Disney World® resorts such as Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and Disney’s All-Star Movies. My girlfriend’s favorite part was the small ceremony space available for guests to tie the knot.

In short, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is a Disney Vacation Club Resort that truly is luxurious, captivating and bustling without losing any of the Disney magic. I look forward to the next time I can go back and experience the magic that this resort has to offer.
